THE FLAG

FLAG OF GUAM

The flag of Guam was adopted on February 9, 1948.
This flag is dark blue with a red border on all sides.
In the center of the flag is the coat of arms representing an emblem symbolizing a canoe sailing in Agana Bay, near Agaña.
We can also see the coconut tree, which grows in the infertile sand, symbolizing self-sufficiency and determination.
In addition, the word Guam is written in red.
The shape of the symbol shows the sling stones used by the islanders ancestors.
It also shows a geographical feature in the background, as it represents the cliff called Two Lovers Point in Guam.
The one who approved the shape of the flag in 1948 was Charles Alan Pownall.
