TYPICAL DANCE
The culture of Guam or Guajan today is that of a community whose roots are nourished by the contribution of the ancient Chamorro people and which has been greatly influenced by Spanish civilization.
The traditional Chamorro culture is manifested in dance, maritime navigation skills, gastronomy, fishing, games (such as batu, chonka, estuleks, and bayogu), songs and clothing influenced by the immigration process.
Traditional dances include the karakia (prayer dance), the pe'e ura pa'u (drum dance), the ate (choral song) and the kaparima (action song). The men stomp, gesticulate and interlock their knees, while the women sensually move their hips.
The islanders are also great singers and musicians.
